Costumes, candy and umbrellas for Halloween!
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are in the forecast for Halloween and Sunday morning. Rain chances are expected to increase around noon Saturday and continue into Sunday. Storms are not expected to become severe, but hit-and-miss rain could create some interruptions for trick-or-treating and other outdoor activities.
Those with Halloween plans should keep the FOX 8 Weather app handy to monitor changing conditions and find potential dry windows. Conditions are expected to improve Monday, with drier weather returning ahead of the next system.

Stronger storms possible Tuesday night into Wednesday
The next weather system will bring a more significant concern. A strong cold front is expected to move through early Wednesday morning, with a line of storms developing ahead of it late Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday.
Heavy rainfall is not the primary concern at this time, as the storm line is expected to move through relatively quickly. The timing also appears favorable for Election Day, with the strongest weather likely arriving late enough to avoid significant interference with voters heading to the polls. Wind damage will be the main threat.
The primary concerns include damaging wind gusts and brief spin-up tornadoes embedded within the line of storms.
Tuesday is expected to be warmer than average, with abundant moisture flowing north from the Gulf. Temperatures will drop behind the front, returning to near average or slightly below average levels Wednesday and Thursday.

Coastal flooding and rough conditions offshore
The persistent east wind has been pushing water toward the coast for several days. Combined with king tides, that setup will likely produce additional minor coastal flooding during high tide through the weekend, particularly along east-facing shores.
Boaters should prepare for rough conditions. East winds of 15 to 20 knots will create choppy seas of 3 to 6 feet across the open Gulf. Small craft should exercise caution before heading offshore.
For now, the weekend storm threat appears limited, but attention will turn to Tuesday night and Wednesday as the stronger cold front approaches. Continue checking the FOX 8 Weather app for updated timing and forecasts.
