PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Local magicians provided tons of tricks to treat veterans, seniors, and hospital patients for 'National Magic Week.'
Today, members of the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) Assembly #4 Philadelphia performed at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Northeast Philadelphia.
Magic week is typically held during the last seven days of October. According to S.A.M., it began roughly 90 years ago as a day of remembrance for Harry Houdini.
Houdini notably died on Halloween day, October 31st, 1926. This Halloween marks 100 years since he passed.
Marc DeSouza, owner of Glenside's 'House of Magic' and president-elect of the S.A.M., paid tribute to Houdini in an interview.
"He represented the soul of the immigrant, people struggling to make their way in America," he said. "Through magic and through escapism, Escapology, as we call it, he proved that the impossible is possible."
The S.A.M. Assembly #4 Philadelphia meets the third Thursday of every month at the House of Magic in Glenside from September through June.
