Texas voters in the Hill Country and parts of San Antonio will vote for a new incumbent to represent Congressional District 21, previously led by U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Dripping Springs).
Roy’s eight-year term will end in January after he traded his seat for an unsuccessful bid for attorney general.
The race opens the door to former MLB player Mark Teixeira and biological scientist Kristin Hook.
Teixeira — a five-time Gold Glove winner, three-time All-Star and World Series champion — earned endorsements from President Donald Trump and Gov. Greg Abbott.
Hook ran unopposed in 2024 for District 21 and advanced to the general election of that year. Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio) both endorsed Hook.
The district covers Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills and portions of San Antonio’s North Side. The boundary also stretches into the Hill Country and includes Bandera, Blanco, Gillespie, Real, Kendall and Kerr counties, as well as parts of Hays and Comal counties.
