Caught on video: Arson investigation underway after car torched in Kensington

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect who was seen on video torching a vehicle in the city's Kensington neighborhood.

The incident happened around 1:11 a.m. Friday on the 2500 block of Trenton Avenue.

Surveillance video obtained by Action News shows a suspect setting a 2020 black Toyota RAV4 on fire before riding away on a bicycle.

Police described the suspect as a man wearing a white bucket hat and a tan jacket.

Investigators are also working to determine whether the fire is connected to another arson earlier this week.

In that case, police said a vehicle was set on fire around 3:15 a.m. on Oct. 26 on the 1900 block of East Hazzard Street.

According to investigators, a 29-year-old man told police he saw a suspect open the gas cap of his 2019 Dodge Charger and place an object inside the fuel tank before the vehicle caught fire.

Police described that suspect as a man wearing all gray clothing.

No injuries were reported in either incident.
