Daybreak Halloween map helps families plan trick-or-treat routes

SOUTH JORDAN — Families looking for the best Halloween displays in Daybreak can now use an online map and mobile app to plan their trick-or-treating routes and discover participating homes throughout the community.

The effort is coordinated through DaybreakHolidays.com and PorchlightVillage.com, where homeowners can register their properties and provide details about their Halloween displays, activities and attractions.

"Some people have paid actors, some people have DJs, some people go all out with food and drink," said Mallory Curnow, one of the organizers behind the project.

Curnow, who moved to Daybreak five years ago, said the event has grown significantly as more residents participate each year.

"It started at, like, maybe 75 houses," Curnow said. "This year, we're over 160, and we're still taking submissions."

The website also connects users to Porchlight, a mobile app designed to help families navigate the neighborhood and create customized trick-or-treating routes.

"They can find a route through the neighborhood to help them plan their Halloween night," said John Snow, the app's developer.

The tool allows visitors to locate popular displays across the community, including themed attractions created by homeowners.

Lance Starling, the owner of the "Stranger Things" themed home in Daybreak, said the map helps visitors discover more than just the neighborhood's most talked-about houses.

"You have one to five different homes that go all out," Starling said. "And as they're going from one house to the next, they're finding 10 others that are decorated, that maybe don't have that recognition, that they still enjoy."

Organizers say the goal is to make Halloween more accessible for families while helping spread visitors throughout the neighborhood.

"Getting your house and the houses around you on the map gets more kids to your area," Curnow said. "So you get to see more trick-or-treaters."

As participation continues to grow, organizers hope the map and app will help families discover new displays, support neighborhood involvement and make the most of Halloween night.
