SWBNO repaves Black Pearl street after Fox 8 reports, but neighbors concerned about new leak
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board (SWBNO) repaved a section of Hurst Street after a pair of Fox 8 reports, but neighbors are concerned a new leak could lead to new issues.
This week, Hurst Street residents confirmed SWBNO repaved a section of road that had been gravel.
The utility placed the gravel there after repairing a sinkhole Fox 8 reported on this month.
A months-old sewer main break had triggered erosion underneath the street.
The gravel repair earned mixed reviews, as one neighbor called the repair a “pothole.”
On Thursday (Oct. 29), Fox 8 reconnected with neighbor Perry Kantor who expressed concern about a leak that he claims appeared in aftermath of SWBNO’s repairs.
The leak is located on the same block. It’s unclear what caused the leak, what its source is or if the two issues are interconnected.
However, Kantor expressed concern history may be repeating.
“It comes down to infrastructure and is the city really taking it seriously,” he said.
Dave Denson’s home is right next to the leak. He didn’t express alarm and acknowledged the state of the city’s infrastructure.
“History is going to repeat itself all over the place down here. You know, there’s always going to be something that breaks,” he said.
Fox 8 has reached out to the SWBNO for more information.
