Cooler weekend ahead before rain returns midweek across the Carolinas
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - We are giving you the First Alert to big changes moving into the Charlotte area this weekend, bringing cooler temperatures and breezier conditions before rain returns by midweek.

A backdoor cold front slipping through the region is ushering in cooler, drier air along with gusty northeast winds. Temperatures tonight will be in the 60s for Trick-or-Treating, with mainly cloudy skies.

While Saturday remains mild with highs settling near 70 degrees under thickening cloud cover, Sunday will be the coolest day of the stretch as a classic cold air damming wedge locks in. Afternoon highs on Sunday will struggle to get out of the 60s, while nighttime lows drop into the 50s.

Anyone heading out for weekend outdoor activities will notice a noticeable chill compared to recent warmth, but dry conditions will prevail. Deeper moisture remains shunted far to the south, keeping rain chances isolated to nearly zero percent through Monday.
Looking ahead to the new workweek, we have been tracking this and giving you the first alert for another round of active weather. The wedge pattern will gradually erode Monday and Tuesday, allowing afternoon temperatures to rebound back into the 70s.

By Wednesday and Thursday, a deepening low-pressure system marching out of the west will pull Gulf moisture northward, bringing our next widespread chance for rain and scattered thunderstorms. While severe weather risk remains low due to limited instability, breezy conditions and wet roadways could impact midweek travel.
