article

One lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules has been recalled over concerns about a salmonella risk.

A food supplement sold at Whole Foods Markets and online through Amazon was recalled over concerns that it could be contaminated with salmonella.

Big picture view:

The recall, which was issued on Friday, covers one lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules 120 count. The supplements were sold for nearly a year, between Nov. 25, 2025, and Oct. 20, 2026, and were available nationwide.

Dig deeper:

A statement on the Food and Drug Administration website indicated that the potential contamination was discovered through routine sampling of a retail unit. It noted that no illnesses related to the recall have been reported at this time.

By the numbers:

The Ashwagandha capsules were sold by Vitality Works Inc. in white, plastic 120-count bottles under the 365 Whole Foods store brand and bear the UPC 9948252099. The product has the lot number 2025-26227 and the expiration date 10/13/2028 printed on the bottom.

Why you should care:

Eating food that has been contaminated with salmonella can cause salmonellosis, a common bacteria-based foodborne illness. Most infected people will experience fever, diarrhea, or abdominal pains within six hours to six days after eating the foods. The illness can last up to a week. Even though it can cause some hospitalizations, most people recover without treatment.

What you can do:

Anyone who has purchased the recalled capsules is advised not to take them. The bottles should be thrown away and not returned to the store. However, refunds will be available at Whole Foods Market locations.
