Flood watch continues this weekend in New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A flood watch covers the Four Corners and nearby areas from Sunday morning into Monday morning as rain could push some rivers above flood stage.
Rain chances stay limited across New Mexico at first, with only brief showers possible in parts of the state before wetter weather builds Sunday.
The bigger rain chance starts Sunday morning in western New Mexico and could reach near Albuquerque, then rain is expected to increase through the afternoon and evening near the Four Corners and the Arizona border.
Some areas could pick up 1-2 inches of rain, mainly in the mountains. Valley areas may see less rain, but runoff from mountain rain could raise rivers around the Four Corners a little above flood stage late Sunday into Monday.
If heavier rain reaches Albuquerque, it would most likely arrive Sunday evening or Sunday night.
Some light snow is expected in the northern mountains of New Mexico above about 9,000 or 10,000 feet Sunday and early Monday. Heavier snow of a foot or more could fall in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.
Most of the rain should end Monday morning. Conditions should turn a little windy and cool Monday, with highs possibly staying in the upper 50s around Albuquerque.
