SC nears 1 million early votes as record turnout continues
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina is seeing record early-voting turnout over a week after the window opened.
Data from the South Carolina Election Commission shows that 110,172 votes were cast on Friday, bringing the statewide total to 948,592. Friday also marked the highest single-day turnout in the early voting period.
The cumulative total is the highest early turnout for a gubernatorial election since the state began offering early voting in 2022.
The following counties topped the list:
- Greenville 94,191
- Charleston: 89,244
- Richland: 83,297
- Horry: 80,219
- York: 54,933
The first day of the early voting window on Oct. 19 saw more than double the turnout compared to the 2022 midterm election. That number was slightly down from the 2024 presidential election.
Other details, such as voter participation by party affiliation, are not made available in a general election.
South Carolina’s early voting period runs through Oct. 31. Click/tap here for more information.
