Security guard fatally shoots knife-wielding man at Waldorf bar
A security guard fatally shot a 41-year-old man who stabbed another man during a confrontation at a Waldorf, Maryland, bar early Saturday morning, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to The Cut Bar & Restaurant, located at 2570 Business Park Court, around 1:46 a.m. Oct. 31, for a reported stabbing and shooting.
A preliminary investigation found that an altercation broke out between two men inside the bar. During the confrontation, one man pulled out a knife and threatened the other, according to investigators.
A private security guard assigned to the business attempted to intervene and gain control of the man’s hand and the knife. The suspect stabbed the other man once in the abdomen. As he appeared to make another attempt to stab the victim, the security guard fired his gun, striking the suspect once in the chest, authorities said.
The suspect walked outside and collapsed in the parking lot. Responding officers found him with the knife still in his hand and provided medical assistance, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was identified as William Pierre Strong, 41, of Waldorf.
The man who was stabbed was treated for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said.
The homicide investigation remains active. Detectives will present the case to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
