San Antonio snack-maker Ricos Products sold after more than a century under family control
The family behind Ricos Products Co., a stalwart in the San Antonio business community, has sold the company.
Venezuela conglomerate Empresas Polar announced Friday its acquisition of the Alamo City snack-maker for an undisclosed amount. The deal gives the Latin American company more of a foothold in the United States.
Ricos Products will maintain its operations and management teams, and the firm will continue to operate in San Antonio. The Liberto family had controlled Ricos Products since 1909.
Empresas Polar President and CEO Lorenzo Mendoza said the plan is to expand the market for Ricos products, which includes nacho cheese sauce, popcorn and chips.
“Our commitment is to build on everything that makes Ricos special — its people, its San Antonio roots, and the quality and traditions its customers have come to trust — while investing in the company’s continued growth and bringing its products to even more consumers around the world,” he said.
