Family of Winter Jones hosts event celebrating autism inclusion
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The family of Winter Jones brought the Mid-South community together on Saturday in Cordova.
Winter is the six-year-old girl with autism who died tragically on a hot day on a daycare bus on August 13.
Winter’s aunt and uncle hosted the inaugural Autism Mini Fall Festival at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church.
They welcomed families across the spectrum with costumes, pumpkin painting, and community support.
Action News 5 spoke with Winter’s father, who was at the event as well.
“Today, like any other day, is just sadness that Winter is not here. Halloween was one of her favorite holidays. She loved to dress up. She loved to eat candy. So, I’m just kinda sad today,” said Bryan Jones, Winter’s father.
Organizers said Saturday’s rescheduled event was all about spreading autism acceptance and ensuring Winter’s legacy lives on.
