Man dead after suffering third-degree burns to entire body in car fire near East Carrollton
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Man dead after car fire caused third-degree burns to his entire body, New Orleans Fire Department said Saturday (Oct. 31).
The man was taken to an area hospital early Saturday morning, where he succumbed to his injuries, NOFD said.
On Friday (Oct. 30), the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) said a man suffered third-degree burns to his entire body after a car fire near East Carrollton.
The NOPD said they were dispatched on a call to investigate “smoke in the area” near the 7800 block of Spruce St.
After officials arrived at 7821 Spruce St., firefighters said they found a vehicle fully involved in the driveway of the residence.
Officials said flames were beginning to spread to the occupied two-story duplex at the address, and they requested additional units.
The house sustained mild to moderate damage to its exterior façade, but officials said the company originally dispatched to the incident kept the fire primarily contained to the vehicle.
While putting out the vehicle fire, firefighters said they found a man near the vehicle with third-degree burns to his entire body.
EMS took the man to a nearby hospital, officials said.
According to the fire department, the extent of his injuries isn’t currently known, but the man was alert and responded to first responders.
Six NOFD units and twenty NOFD Fire Operations personnel were used to bring the incident under control around 6:30 p.m., officials said.
The department is investigating the cause of the fire.
