San Juan County crews gear up for more flooding this weekend

FARMINGTON, N.M. – Flood chances return Saturday night as county officials prepare for more wet weather and forecasters expect up to 1 inch of rain Saturday night.

New Mexico Department of Transportation posted photos of its cleanup progress from last weekend’s historic floods.

Officials said New Mexico Department of Transportation crews are prepared to head out again this weekend if anything happens, and county officials said they are prepared as well.

“The Saturday outlook, we are starting to pay more attention to that as the models become more clear,” said San Juan County Fire Department Deputy Chief John Gilbert. “Saturday night is where it’s going to being setting up and we do expect some persistent but low intensity rain. A little bit different than we saw eight days ago. We are expecting upwards of 1 inch of rain.”
