The Carnesville facility is Walmart’s sixth next-generation fulfillment center. The site will combine machine learning and automation technology with site associates to increase order capacity for Walmart.com and expand access to same-day and next-day shipping.
The facility, which will be at 10725 Old Federal Road in Carnesville, will feature an automated, high-density storage and retrieval system.
The automation system reduces a manual 12-step fulfillment process to five steps. It is designed to double the number of customer orders the retailer can process daily.

The building also doubles the storage capacity of a traditional fulfillment center, allowing Walmart to store up to twice the number of unique products, or stock keeping units.
Walmart plans to hire 1,000 local full-time associates once operations fully ramp up. The retailer stated it will recruit for a variety of roles at the facility, including technology-focused positions.
