Scary weather: Torrential Halloween rain prompts flood warning
Saturday night’s weather felt more like a cruel trick, no treat, as the skies above the Las Vegas Valley opened up and dumped buckets of rain on parts of the area just in time for Halloween night.
The wet weather might have been the scariest part of Saturday’s culmination of spooky season. The National Weather Service’s Las Vegas forecast office issued a flash flood warning Saturday night that was in effect until about 9:15 p.m.
Here is what the weather service posted just after 6:20 p.m. Saturday night on its website:
“At 621 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.25 and 0.75 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.”
The warning applied to Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Lone Mountain, Centennial Hills, Aliante, Summerlin, North Las Vegas Airport and Floyd Lamb Park, the weather service said.
Parts of the northwest Las Vegas Valley were getting hammered by rain. Trick-or-treaters brave enough to face the elements were seen hoisting umbrellas as they went door to door.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
