East Side neighbors concerned, saddened by shooting death of 16-year-old boy on Halloween weekend
East Side neighbors were concerned Saturday after a 16-year-old boy was killed in a shooting the night before Halloween.
Gloria Reyna said she did not even hear the sirens after falling asleep and was unaware anything had happened until she went outside Saturday morning.
“My neighbor, she asked me if I knew what happened, and I said no,” Reyna said.
Reyna said it was hard to hear someone so young lose their life in such a violent way in her neighborhood.
“I’m so sorry for his family. I know that this has been happening a lot now,” Reyna said. “We always hear it in the news, but to happen down my street, a couple of houses down, it’s very sad.”
As neighbors prepare for trick-or-treating Saturday evening, Reyna said she is concerned about potentially more violence this weekend.
“Because if this happened last night, it can still happen any other time.”
Reyna said this tragedy is a reminder that kids need to be careful.
“Parents should talk to their kids about all this that is going on, especially now, the way things are in this world,” she said.
The teen has not been identified, and no other information has been released.
