Thousands attend Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Thousands of people gathered at the Chesterfield Amphitheater on Saturday for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. They raised money for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Their goal was a cure.
The walk raised more than $1.3 million for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Nearly 3,000 people and 387 teams had registered, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Volunteers make the event, and the mission behind it, possible. Many of them walk for someone they lost.
Amy Wheeler is one of those volunteers.
“I lost my uncle Warren Powers to Alzheimer’s in 2021. Decided to get involved with the Alzheimer’s Association just to carry on his legacy,” shared Wheeler.
Four flower colors were featured at the opening ceremony. Each one stands for a different connection to the disease: yellow for caregivers, purple for people who have lost someone, blue is for people living with Alzheimer’s, and orange for supporters
“Our hope one day is that everyone here is carrying white flowers and that means we finally found a cure for Alzheimer’s,” said Wheeler.
