New K-12 initiative aims to strengthen school safety via mapping and software
Technology providers GeoComm and Georgia-based SchoolDog announced a partnership aimed at helping K–12 school districts strengthen safety preparedness.
The collaboration combines GeoComm’s mapping technology with SchoolDog’s safety management software to integrate campus mapping with daily district operations.
The partnership links mapping context with routine safety management in school environments.
GeoComm focuses on public safety grade location mapping of building interiors and campus grounds, while SchoolDog provides software for administrators, facilities staff and safety teams to manage emergency plans and daily inspections.

GeoComm provides location context by converting floor plans and building information into structured mapping data. The system maps rooms, doors, exits and relevant points of interest for indoor and outdoor campus areas.
“School safety depends on people having the information they need to act with confidence,” Rose Bentley, chief operating officer of GeoComm, said. “SchoolDog understands the daily responsibilities school leaders carry. By bringing our location intelligence expertise into this relationship, we can help connect that operational understanding with a clearer picture of school buildings and campuses, supporting preparedness before an incident and informed decisions when circumstances change.”

SchoolDog’s platform allows district staff to record observations during routine activities, conduct digital safety walks, record drills and manage Emergency Operations Plans.
The software connects reported facility hazards, such as damaged doors or blocked passages, directly to maintenance work order workflows to track issues through resolution.
SchoolDog Solutions, Inc. was co-founded in 2024 by a retired Georgia superintendent and is based in Carrollton. Its leadership team consists of former K–12 district leaders.
The company currently provides software to school districts across Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Arkansas.
That reach includes all 137 public school districts in Alabama through a partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education.
Robert “Buddy” Costley, the co-founder and chief executive officer of SchoolDog, said school leaders have many responsibilities, and the company’s software is there to help.
“School leaders have so many daily responsibilities and no one person has the time or expertise to lead school safety all by themselves,” Costley said. “We built SchoolDog to help them build and celebrate a team approach to school safety and laser in on what is going well and what needs improvement.”
Costley said the partnership with GeoComm and its mapping technology would be a major help for school leaders in maintaining vigilance and better understanding how their campuses work when it comes to the community inside and out.
