17-year-old girl killed, 2 others hurt in shooting outside Arlington Halloween party, JSO says

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed a 17-year-old girl was killed in a shooting in the Arlington area early Sunday.

At a media briefing, JSO’s Commander Vorpahl explained that officers were called to the 6200 block of Arlington Expressway regarding multiple people shot.

Once officers arrived, they found one deceased victim, the 17-year-old girl, a second victim with a gunshot wound, and learned a third shooting victim had self-transported to a local hospital.

The two surviving victims are both in stable condition, Commander Vorphal said. Police have not disclosed their identities.

Investigators have determined multiple people were waiting in line to attend a Halloween party in the area when a dispute broke out and shots were fired.

Commander Vorphal said that it appears the three people shot were not involved in the dispute nor the intended targets.

The sheriff’s office said there are two suspected shooters—both of whom are black males who were wearing dark clothing. Investigators said the suspects approached on foot.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that due to the large crowd size, there are likely multiple individuals who may have cellphone video or have witnessed the shooting unfold.
