Active weather pattern brings rain chances, storm threat to southeast Louisiana this week
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A more active weather pattern is taking shape across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Rain chances are returning to the forecast and are expected to stick around through the middle of the week as a cold front approaches.
Monday will be mostly cloudy, with a slight chance of a few passing showers. Winds will remain out of the east, and temperatures will stay relatively warm with highs in the upper 70s.

The weather turns more active Tuesday, which is Election Day. Highs will climb into the low 80s ahead of an approaching cold front. A few showers and thunderstorms could develop during the day, potentially impacting outdoor plans and trips to the polls. However, the better chance for widespread rain and storms is expected Tuesday night.
Strong to severe storms will be possible Tuesday night into early Wednesday. The approaching system is expected to bring a round of showers and thunderstorms as a cold front moves through. Some storms could become strong to severe.
There are still some differences in the forecast models regarding how the system will develop and move through the region. Those details will help determine how widespread storms become and how significant the severe weather threat could be. Details should become clearer as the system moves closer.
Behind the front, cooler and drier air will settle in. Highs will fall into the mid-70s by the end of the week, with rain chances decreasing as conditions dry out. Another push of cooler air could arrive next weekend, potentially bringing temperatures down into the lower 70s.

Coastal flooding remains a concern
Along the coast, persistent easterly winds will continue to contribute to minor coastal flooding during high tide. Winds may briefly ease over the Gulf but are expected to remain out of the east through Monday before increasing to around 15 to 20 knots over open waters.
A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for portions of the Louisiana and Mississippi coast where minor coastal flooding is expected. Coastal residents should remain aware of water levels, especially during high tide.
