Raiders snap losing streak, beat Jets in road shootout

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Las Vegas Raiders stopped their four-game losing streak Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium — even though they struggled to stop the New York Jets for much of their matchup.

The Raiders evened their record again with a 38-33 victory over the Jets, who totaled 439 yards from scrimmage and had a 276-97 edge at halftime. Las Vegas quarterback Kirk Cousins threw the go-ahead touchdown from 2 yards out with 11:33 to wide receiver Jalen Nailor, his first touchdown with the Raiders.

Las Vegas won despite allowing 30-plus points for a fifth straight game and trailing 23-14 at halftime. Cousins finished 19-of-26 passing for 247 yards with three passing touchdowns and a rushing score. Tight end Brock Bowers had seven receptions, 92 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Dylan Laube returned a second-quarter kickoff 95 yards for a score.

Jets running back Braelon Allen had 147 of New York’s 166 rushing yards, logging 7 yards per carry on 21 attempts. Former Las Vegas quarterback Geno Smith added 290 passing yards and first-half scoring passes to wide receivers Isaiah Williams and Adonai Mitchell, who had 142 receiving yards.

Smith threw a last-gasp interception to safety Jeremy Chinn.

The Jets scored on their first six possessions but the Raiders didn’t relent offensively, countering a three-play scoring drive with a 10-play touchdown march Cousins capped. They forced a punt on their next defensive drive and took the lead on the ensuing possession, a nine-play, 84-yard march that Nailor ended with his 2-yard score.

Another three-and-out followed for the Jets but Las Vegas couldn’t capitalize, following with a three-and-out. But its defense stiffened in the red zone after Smith completed a 47-yard pass to Mitchell, holding the Jets to a field goal and adding their own (a 51-yarder from kicker Matt Gay) in the final minute.

Nailor finished with four receptions for 38 yards, season highs, and defensive end Maxx Crosby recorded his first solo sack since Week 1.
