84-year-old arrested after allegedly pointing shotgun at St. Charles Parish deputies
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - St. Charles Parish officials said they have arrested an 84-year-old man after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at deputies on Halloween night.
On Oct. 31, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m., deputies said they responded to reports of a suspicious person walking around and pointing a shotgun at residents in the Charlestowne subdivision in St. Rose.
Deputies said when they arrived, they encountered the suspect near the intersection of W. Club Drive and River Birch Lane and ordered him multiple times to drop his gun, but he did not comply and, at one point, pointed the shotgun at the deputies.
The deputies said they fired shots at the man after this, and he fell to the ground. However, they said they quickly approached the suspect to render aid and determined he did not have any gunshot injuries.
The man, identified as 84-year-old Herman Alexander of Charlestowne, was taken into custody without further incident.
According to police, Alexander does not have a criminal history; however, in May 2026, deputies were dispatched to his residence for an apparent mental health episode, after which he was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Deputies said his charges are forthcoming.
