Braves’ Matt Olson, Mauricio Dubon win Gold Glove awards

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Two Atlanta Braves were recognized as the National League’s premier defenders on Sunday night.

First baseman Matt Olson and utilityman Mauricio Dubón were each awarded Rawlings Gold Glove Awards at their respective positions for the 2026 season. Left-hander Chris Sale and center fielder Michael Harris II were also finalists, but were edged out by Mets right-hander Nolan McLean and Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Olson and Dubón are Atlanta’s first duo to take home Gold Gloves in the same year since pitcher Max Fried and shortstop Dansby Swanson did so in 2022. The honors extend a dominant defensive stretch for the franchise, which has claimed 12 Gold Gloves across seven of the last nine seasons since 2018.

Voting is split between field personnel and advanced analytics: Managers and up to six coaches on each team cast ballots for 75% of the vote, though they cannot select their own players. The remaining 25% relies on the SABR Defensive Index, a data-driven formula that evaluates defensive metrics such as range, arm strength and fielding reliability. A separate SABR Defensive Index calculation determines the utility winner.

Olson wins 4th Gold Glove

Olson, 32, joined Christian Walker and Paul Goldschmidt as the only active first basemen with four Gold Glove Awards. He captured the honor over San Diego’s Ty France and Colorado’s T.J. Rumfield.

The veteran durability standout led all Major League first basemen in innings played this season, appearing in all 162 games while anchoring the Braves’ infield with elite metrics. Olson paced all MLB first basemen in Outs Above Average (12) and overall fielding run value (12), while ranking second only to France in Defensive Runs Saved (11).

Dubon wins 3rd Gold Glove

Dubón, 32, showcased rare defensive versatility across the diamond this season, making 75 starts in left field, 51 at shortstop, 14 in center field, five at third base and four at second base.

He is also the first Atlanta player to capture the utility Gold Glove since Rawlings introduced the category in 2022. He has dominated the honor since its inception, winning it three times in five years — including two American League nods with the Astros — making him the only multi-time winner at the position in Major League history.
