Camden County deputies investigate needles found inside Halloween candy
CAMDENTON, Mo. (KY3) - The Camden County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a local family reported finding sewing needles inserted into Halloween candy collected over the weekend.
According to deputies, the family discovered the foreign objects inside candy gathered while trick-or-treating in neighborhoods along Route HH near Lake of the Ozarks.
Investigators are working to identify the source of the tampered candy and determine whether other households or subdivisions in the area have been impacted.
Free candy X-ray screening available for families
In response to the incident, the sheriff’s office opened the Camden County Justice Center on Sunday afternoon to allow concerned parents to have their children’s trick-or-treat bags screened through security X-ray machines.
Authorities announced the free X-ray screening service will remain available to the public throughout the coming week during regular business hours at the justice center, located at 1 Court Circle in Camdenton.
Deputies urge all parents to thoroughly inspect all treats, look for punctures or tears in wrappers, and discard any opened or suspicious candy. Anyone who discovers tampered items or has information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Camden County Sheriff’s Office at 573-346-2243.
