Fire at Xavier University of Louisiana prompts brief evacuation

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A laundry fire at Xavier University of Louisiana late Sunday prompted a brief evacuation of a dormitory floor on Sunday (Nov. 1), students tell FOX8.

Around 7:30 p.m. Xavier University officials said a fire broke out in an overloaded clothes dryer. They said the fire was contained in the dryer.

According to university officials, campus police put out the fire with an extinguisher.

There were no injuries, university officials said.

The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) helped get the smoke out of the building, officials said. FOX 8 saw several firetrucks and NOFD officials on the scene.

All students were allowed to go back into their dorms shortly before 9 p.m.
