‘He was the glue’: Family remembers 20-year-old victim of Halloween shooting in Durkeeville

The family of 20-year-old Isaiah Goodson is grieving and seeking answers after he was killed in a shooting at a Halloween party in Durkeeville early Sunday morning.

Goodson was one of two people who died in shootings at two Halloween night parties in Jacksonville early Sunday. Several others were injured in what turned out to be a day of violence across Jacksonville.

His cousin, Dacora Lewis, told Action News Jax he was shot while attending the Durkeeville party, taken to a hospital and later died.

“He was only 20 years old. Like, he had a lot more life to go,” Lewis said.

The party drew nearly 200 people. Police said the gathering spilled into the streets and 10 people were shot, including a 15-year-old girl. Goodson died, one person was left fighting for their life and eight were in stable condition.

“He passed protecting others. Definitely the type of guy he was,” Lewis said.

Shoes, trash and personal items remained near Wilcox and 5th streets Sunday afternoon.

“Life with him was amazing. He was the glue to our family. We could call him for anything, anything we can call him for, he kept us all together,” Lewis said.

Lewis said she wants the community to remember Goodson as loving, strong and a hero.

“He was a great guy. He went to work. He Door-dashed on the side, you know - like he just wanted to go out and have a good time,” Lewis said.

Police said both after-Halloween night shooting investigations will rely on information from the community.

Goodson’s family is urging anyone with information to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
