Action News 5, Kroger kick off holiday food drive across Mid-South
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Monday marks the kickoff of the Action News 5 Holiday Food Drive in partnership with the Mid-South Food Bank and Kroger.
Community members can participate by making a monetary donation or dropping off food items at any Kroger location. Shoppers buying groceries or Thanksgiving dinner essentials can contribute by rounding up their purchase totals at the register, or by dropping off non-perishable goods and canned items. The Mid-South Food Bank is specifically requesting peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna, and soup.

Reginald Alexander, director of government relations for the Mid-South Food Bank, said the need for assistance across the community remains constant.
“They see what’s going on, they see prices rising, they see higher gas prices, they see higher food prices and they understand the people who have been food insecure for a while are even more dyer need right now,” Alexander said.
Kroger has donated more than 100,000 meals to the food bank this year. In addition, the grocer will donate a turkey to the food bank for every touchdown scored by the Memphis Tigers this season.
The food drive concludes with the Day of Giving on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
