Election Day is Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know

Polls will open statewide on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for the 2026 midterm elections.

Learn more about how to vote in the election, where your polling place is, and navigate any questions you may have in Spotlight Delaware’s election voting explainer below.

What does the process of voting include?

Who can vote in the election?

Any registered Delaware voter can vote in the general election. Additionally, you must be:

  • A United States citizen
  • A resident of Delaware
  • 18 years old on or before Nov.3.

The deadline to register to vote in the election already passed on Oct. 10.

What hours are polls open?

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. statewide.

If you’re in line when the polls close — stay in line. You still have the right to vote.

Where do I vote?

Registered voters should have received a postcard in recent weeks detailing where to find their polling precinct. There are several hundred polling places open across the state today.

If you missed that notification, you can also find your polling place by visiting ivote.de.gov and entering your address at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, go to bit.ly/de-polling-places to see all available polling places in your area.

What do I need to bring to vote?

When you go vote, you must show one of the following forms of ID:

  • Valid state-issued photo ID
  • Utility bill
  • Paycheck
  • Any government document with your name and address

If you do not have one of the forms of ID, you can sign an affidavit of affirmation that you are the person listed on the election district record.

Can I still vote by absentee ballot?

Voters have until noon today — Monday, Nov. 2 — to request an absentee ballot via the ivote.de.gov portal if they will be unable to make it a poll on Election Day.

All absentee ballots must be returned to the Department of Elections by 8 p.m. Tuesday to be counted though. Delaware will not count any absentee ballots returned after the close of polls.

If you miss the deadline to request an absentee ballot, you should report to your designated precinct to make sure that your vote is counted.

I need help. Who do I talk to?

If you need help or need to speak with an elections official, contact the Delaware Department of Elections: https://elections.delaware.gov/locations.shtml

I noticed an issue at the poll. What should I do?

Notify Spotlight Delaware at [email protected] with as much detail regarding the issue that you can, including where, when and what you observed.

Please include contact info, even if you wish to remain anonymous in our reporting, so that we can follow up and learn more about the situation.

We are monitoring any problems at the polls during the 2026 election season and will investigate issues noticed by voters.

What time will results be issued?

Results from Delaware’s September primary election began to be posted about 30 minutes following the close of polls. Most races had been called by 10 p.m., but particularly close races may take longer.

Spotlight Delaware will have a homepage tracking the results of the election by races of note, while our Live Blog will be offering real-time commentary as well.
