Once Upon a Farm Tractor Wheels recalled over potentially fatal choking risk

The Food and Drug Administration is warning parents not to buy or serve a popular toddler soft-baked snack bar after receiving several reports that it had completely blocked children’s airways.

Once Upon a Farm is voluntarily recalling all of its Tractor Wheels soft-baked bars due to the potential choking hazard. The recall impacts all flavors, quantities and varieties, including all lot codes and expiration dates.

“When chewed, the product reportedly forms a dry, sticky mass that standard choking interventions — including back blows and the Heimlich maneuver — may fail to dislodge,” the FDA said in an advisory. “Some reported choking incidents have required emergency response intervention and hospital observation.”

The FDA said it had received several reports of toddlers “suffering complete airway obstruction with the inability to breathe after consuming the product.” The agency did not detail how many reports it had received, but Once Upon a Farm said in a statement it had received three reports of a potential choking hazard.

Once Upon a Farm CEO John Foraker said the company was reformulating the bars to “ensure they adhere to highest standards.”

“At Once Upon a Farm our mission is to drive systemic improvement in childhood nutrition, and that starts with doing what is right for our valued customers. We are committed to delivering on that promise.”

The recalled products include the Apple, Sweet Potato, & Spinach Tractor Wheels; Strawberry, Pumpkin, & Beet Tractor Wheels; and Banana, Pumpkin & Cauliflower Tractor Wheels.

The snack bars are sold at most grocery and retail stores across the U.S, including Costco, Target, Walmart, as well as Amazon.com.

Customers should not open or consume the recalled products, and are urged to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund or contact [email protected].

No other Once Upon a Farm products are impacted by this recall.
