Carolyn's Modern Vietnamese honors chef's family and combines global influences

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Carolyn's Modern Vietnamese has only been open for a month, but the namesake owner-chef Carolyn Hien Nguyen is excited for her new entry on the Rittenhouse cuisine scene.

Revolution Taco was Carolyn's first restaurant, in the same space for 10 years, and she was involved in every aspect of the changeover.

Now, she is embarking on a concept that combines her Vietnamese heritage, her Louisiana roots, and her love of the 'French cafe spirit.'

She stresses the cuisine is not traditional Vietnamese, but a mix of styles she and her team can have fun creating - hence adding 'modern' to the name of the spot.
