HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Alcohol containers were found in the vehicle of a driver who crashed and died on the East Freeway on Monday morning, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.
The sheriff's office said the driver was traveling westbound on I-10 East at a high rate of speed when they lost control and crashed into a wall just before the Monmouth Drive exit. HCSO said the vehicle flipped several times, and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.
Investigators said they found alcohol containers in the crashed vehicle and scattered on the roadway from when the vehicle rolled over. As a result, HCSO concluded speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
The crash closed the freeway for at least two hours before it reopened at about 5 a.m.
