Couple accused of leaving 3 kids in jeep while at casino in Hollywood arrested, cops say
A mother and stepfather accused of leaving three children alone in a car for about an hour while they were inside the Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood were arrested Sunday, authorities said.
Lillian Mun, 32, and Terrence Wright, 42, are facing several charges, including child neglect and leaving children unattended in a motor vehicle.
During her court appearance on Monday, a judge denied Mun’s bond.
According to authorities, an officer arrived at the casino after security reported that three children were found inside a jeep that was not running and appeared to be unresponsive.
An arrest report said that security then opened the jeep’s door and found the children conscious and sweating. The jeep was off and its windows were up, and officers felt heat emitting from inside.
The children were then evaluated, and it was determined they didn’t need medical attention, the report said. The 1-year-old and the other two children did not have access to food or water, and didn’t have a phone to call their parents.
Security footage reviewed by Seminole security showed the jeep parking and Wright getting out and heading to the casino, the report said. Wright said he was the children’s stepfather and that he came to the casino with Mun and the children, and went inside to use the bathroom.
Mun, the report said, was then seen at the casino and said she was inside the jeep with her children when it turned off. She said she didn’t have the keys to start the car, and went to look for Wright and spent about 20 minutes in the casino.
After further reviewing the surveillance footage, Wright was seen gambling in the casino, while Mun was sitting at a slot machine near Wright and watched him gamble, the report said.
Mun, the report said, was seen using her phone, and at one point, the two appeared to be playing the slot machine and didn’t go back outside to check on the children.
The children were left alone in the turned-off jeep for about an hour, the report said.
Mun and Wright were then arrested.
The two have been in a relationship for three years and live together as a family, the report said.
Records showed that Mun is on probation for grand theft of $5,000 to $10,000.
After their arrest, the children were released to Mun’s Friend.
The Department of Children and Families was notified.
