CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Carolina Panthers hired a former Pro Bowl player as an assistant coach amid the recent staff shakeup.
The team confirmed on Nov. 2, that DeAngelo Hall was joining Dave Canales’ staff as the Panthers’ new cornerbacks coach.
Hall -- a cornerback himself -- played 14 seasons in the NFL, from 2004-2017.
He spent time with the Falcons, Raiders and Redskins, with the majority of his career in Washington. A first-round draft pick in 2004, Hall was named a Pro Bowler three times.
The Panthers had a need on the coaching staff after they fired defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley on Oct. 30.
Hall was previously with the Panthers as an assistant defensive backs coach in 2023 and 2024.

Hall returns to Carolina with the Panthers’ cornerback room in disarray.
Starting corners Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson have both been on injured reserve since suffering major injuries in Week 3 against the Browns. Backups Will Lee and Akayleb Evans have also since gotten hurt.
Carolina’s cornerback situation got so bad in their Week 8 matchup with the Green Bay Packers that Marco Wilson -- who joined the Panthers’ practice squad on Oct. 6 -- started and played all 69 defensive snaps.
Wilson started opposite Lee, but when Lee went down in the second quarter, forgotten 2024 draft pick Chau Smith-Wade was forced back into action. That left Carolina down to its fifth and sixth cornerbacks.
There is hope that Horn and Jackson could be back in the coming weeks. Their returns would both give the Panthers huge boosts.
The Panthers got a “mini-bye” after playing the Packers on Thursday Night Football. Their next game is set for this Sunday, Nov. 8, when they host the Denver Broncos at Bank of America Stadium.
