Trump to give midterm ‘closing argument’ speech at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool
(Gray News) - President Donald Trump is expected to deliver a midterm “closing argument” speech at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington on Monday.
In comments to reporters as he deplaned from Air Force One for a Sunday rally in Iowa, Trump said he would be speaking at the site to “show how beautiful it is.”
“We might hold it tomorrow or something,” Trump told reporters, but he did not give specifics.
Hours later, the White House formally announced that Trump would give a speech at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Monday afternoon.
The speech will be a “closing argument” about the midterms, according to people familiar with the upcoming speech. Trump is also expected to tout his Washington, D.C., renovation projects and the reopening of the Reflecting Pool.
The unusual move marks a departure from Trump’s monthlong race to stage more than 25 rallies in largely conservative areas, hoping the GOP can overcome his own low approval ratings and polls predicting that the Iran war, high energy prices and cost-of-living increases could spell a strong election night for Democrats, according to the Associated Press.
Trump’s remarks at the Lincoln Reflecting Pool will be one of the president’s last opportunities to make a pitch to prospective voters.
