Texas Senate race shatters US spending record with Musk's millions

Elon Musk has helped propel spending in the Texas Senate race past $560 million, making it the most expensive in American history.

That record-breaking figure largely covers political advertising, according to AdImpact, which tracks campaign ads. It puts Texas ahead of the previous leader, Ohio’s 2024 Senate contest.

“It’s absolutely bonkers, but this is life inside a competitive general election,” said Vinny Minchillo, a Plano-based Republican consultant.

The staggering price tag reflects a bruising Republican primary this spring, record Democratic fundraising and an enormous infusion of outside money, much of it from Musk, the world’s richest man.
