HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Community members in Magnolia Park will join Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia, and Councilman Joaquin Martinez for the groundbreaking of a new drainage project.
This groundbreaking marks the start of the Magnolia Park Neighborhood Drainage Project, which Garcia proposed as part of his Revive2Thrive Initiative.
The $28.4 million project responds to longtime residents dealing with inadequate drainage and poor road conditions that worsened with weather and heat.

Officials said this project is expected to cover 80th Street and Sherman Street.
It will replace and improve storm streets, storm sewers, curbs, sidewalks, and driveways. The project will also add underground utilities to help reduce structural flooding and provide families with better roads, according to a press release.
County officials said an additional phase will cover improvements to other streets in the area.
The groundbreaking will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday.
