Live stream: Remains of ‘Boxcar Boy’ exhumed at Charlotte cemetery after nearly 100 years
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The remains of a boy who died nearly 100 years ago were dug up at a Charlotte cemetery on Monday.
The unidentified teenage boy -- who is known only as the “Boxcar Boy” -- was buried at the Elmwood Cemetery on the edge of Uptown after he was found in a train car in 1932.
Interest in the cold case was renewed several months ago, when Ramapo College sought to raise money to exhume the boy’s remains, in hopes of giving him a name.
On Nov. 2, his remains were brought back above ground.
Members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, as well as groups from Western Carolina University and Ramapo College were there for the exhumation.
Officials are set to give an update at approximately 2 p.m. regarding what they found, and what they hope to find out in the future. Their remarks will be streamed live in the top of this story.
