Man arrested for deadly South Valley crash, alcohol ‘a contributing factor’
BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — A man was arrested for allegedly causing a high-speed crash that left one person dead early Sunday morning in the South Valley.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Osvaldo Valenzuela for allegedly killing a one person in a crash at Bridge Boulevard and Atrisco Road. It happened Sunday sometime before 12:42 a.m.
Deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection. They arrived with emergency personnel and found multiple people with injuries, including a “female occupant” who died at the scene. Paramedics took two other people to the hospital.
Investigators gathered witness statements and physical evidence. They surmised a white Hyundai Santa Cruz was traveling westbound on Bridge at a high rate of speed and crashed into a Hyundai Tucson, going south on Atrisco.
According to BCSO, alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. They identified Valenzuela as the driver of the Santa Cruz.
Valenzuela faces a homicide by motor vehicle charge.
