Sure, there's E.T. and Yoda, but some of the best-selling masks in 1982 weren't movie characters. They were politicians like Ronald Regan, Jimmy Carter, and even Richard Nixon. This Andy Cassells report aired on WNYW on October 30, 1982.

Martha Stewart sparked backlash over the weekend after posting a photo of herself appearing dressed as a homeless person for Halloween.

She deleted the post and apologized on Sunday, calling the costume "insensitive and not funny."

What they're saying:

"It’s hard to admit when you’ve really screwed up," Stewart, 85, said on her personal Instagram account on Nov. 1. "I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny. I am very sorry."

The backstory:

On Halloween, the businesswoman shared a photo of herself wearing ripped-up clothing with dirt on her face.

Stewart also carried a sign that read, "I am hungry. Help me."

Several social media users called out Stewart, with some users labeling the costume as "tone deaf," "offensive" and "out of touch."

She also issued a statement to Page Six shortly after deleting the photo.

"I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention," the TV personality told Page Six.

"Homelessness continues to remain one of America’s greatest challenges and ongoing crises, something that I care deeply about, and I have spent a significant amount of time and effort supporting charities that combat this ongoing social epidemic," she continued.

Stewart shared she was "committed to continuing to make a difference."
