New Orleans groups scramble to get voters to polls on Election Day
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Community organizations are rallying to get voters to the polls on Election Day (Nov 3).
Debra Campbell, chairperson for non-profit community activist organization A Community Voice, joined her team of four volunteers Monday night (Nov. 2) on St. Claude Avenue to call New Orleans voters ahead of Tuesday’s election.
Her team operated off a spreadsheet of New Orleans voters that she estimated included 10,000 names.
“Sometimes they hang up on us, and sometimes they listen. I don’t know if it makes a difference, but we try to make a difference,” she said.
State data shows the number of New Orleans early voters in the 2026 midterms reached 48,684, dwarfing the 2022 midterm sum of 28,835.
Statewide totals represent a similar spike.
“This is your voice. You pay for this. So have the right to pull that lever,” Campbell said.
Voice Of The Experienced (VOTE) is holding a rally at Dillard University Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Lawless Memorial Chapel.
Deputy director Bruce Reilly said the organization will be canvassing and making calls throughout the day.
He pointed to the two Public Service Commission elections as key races for voters to be engaged.
The office regulates power companies, which can shape the consumer’s electric bill.
“That is a direct pocketbook wallet connection between one’s vote and who they vote for,” he said.
The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will be offering free rides Tuesday to help voters get to the polls.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Voters in line at 8 p.m. will still be able to vote.
You can find information on voter registration and polling places through the Louisiana Secretary of State website.
