LSU and Alabama meet on the football field for the 63rd consecutive season
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - This will be the 63rd consecutive year LSU and Alabama will meet on the football field. But next year they will not play because of the new SEC scheduling system introduced this offseason.
" I think that’s just sad, and I understand. I’m not being critical. All the decisions, usually, I think all of them probably really come down to money, whether that’s the realignments or the rivalries," said Kiffin. “I think it’s all sad in general, in the big picture of things, that money drives changes to such great traditions and rivalries. There are really good things that have changed in college football over the years, but there’s also a lot that I think myself and a lot of people wish were the way that they were — rivalries and conferences the same.”
The first playoff rankings of the season come out on Tuesday night. Alabama and LSU both have two losses, a third could knock them out of the postseason.
“Yeah, we don’t even talk about that. So, it has nothing to do with this game. This is just one game that we’ve got to be ready to play to get to 1-0 and not worry about who we’re playing next or where we are in playoff rankings or anything. I told the guys, don’t watch that. Don’t watch it when it comes out because it’s going to move so much between now and the end of the year, and you control a lot of it. So, play really well and win, and you won’t have anything to worry about,” said Kiffin.
The Tigers permanent opponents right now are Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Ole Miss. they’ll play all three each season.
