What happens if Georgia voters split their ticket?

As voters cast their ballots, there are some who will be splitting their vote by casting a ballot for candidates in different parties, and it could have an impact on those down ballot races.

Raphael Bey is one of those voters planning a split ticket.

“Rick Jackson,” said Bey.

He will vote for a republican for Governor and lower on the ballot, he’s voting for a democrat.

“It’s about what they’re going to do for the people,” said Bey.

And split voters like him are known to make a difference here in Georgia. In 2022 Jon Ossoff was ahead in the polls then. Voters split the tickets and Republican Governor Brian Kemp won convincingly.

The same could happen on Tuesday night. An average from the AJC/UGA and Insider Advantage polls has Ossoff up 7.5 points over his opponent this election. Even if Democrats have a good night, Rick Jackson could still win the Governor’s race.

For Georgia Senate candidates, they’re spending the last few hours of campaigning pushing for themselves and their party.

“We’ve got to stop this mess right here in Georgia. Because if we don’t, then President Trump is going to have a hard time,” said Rep. Mike Collins.

“Keisha Lance Bottoms is committed to expanding Medicaid,” said Sen. Jon Ossoff. And it is vital that we elect a Medicaid-expanding governor to address our state’s healthcare emergency."
