Live updates: Voters head to the polls in DC, Maryland & Virginia
What to Know
- D.C. residents are voting in what will be one of the most consequential elections in the recent history of home rule, with a new mayor and new delegate to the U.S. House guaranteed. In addition, two At-Large seats on the D.C. Council and several seats on the ward level will also be on the ballot.
- In Maryland, Gov. Wes Moore is running for a second term against opponent Dan Cox. It’s a repeat matchup of the governor’s race after the two ran against each other in 2022. The two sparred on the economy, affordability, Trump and more in their only debate this election season.
- Virginia voters will be deciding whether Sen. Mark Warner should win another term — one he’s said would be his last — in a race against retired Army Major General Bert Mizusawa, a political newcomer.
- Voters in D.C., Maryland and Virginia also will vote on ballot initiatives that could be made law. Issues on the table include civil rights and women’s health in Virginia; wages, redistricting and budget allocation in Maryland and animal rights in D.C.
