PRESIDENT TRUMP Salazar says remarks were meant as warning to President Trump

With the midterm elections approaching in November, U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar appears to be breaking with the Trump administration on immigration in a new ad, a rare move that has drawn attention across the political spectrum.

The ad has sparked criticism from Democrats as well as some members of her own party.

In an exclusive interview with NBC6, Salazar said she spoke with President Donald Trump earlier Friday about the ad and the issues it raises.

"I was not attacking the president. I was warning him," Salazar said.
