UNM WBB Falls to Seattle in Season Opener 63-62

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The UNM Women’s Basketball team fell in their season opener 63-62 to Seattle.

The Lobs led at one point in the fourth quarter 62-51, but Seattle closed the game on a 12-0 run to win.

Laila Abdurraqib led the Lobos with 20 points. Gracie Kelsey, Mila Reynolds and Kate Wernli all finished with 10 points.

Head Coach Amy Eagan spoke after the game and what the Lobos need to improve on moving forward.

“It’s going to take all of us. I mean, it’s not going to, you know, we just got to have everybody show up. And, I thought we had some kids struggle today with some of the pressure of being out there and playing in the pit, and didn’t do their job the way we needed them to do their job in order for us to win. we were up 11. I subbed, and, I thought when I subbed, they went on quick, really quick. 9-0 run! Again, that’s part of everybody understanding that we need everybody. Right. You got to show up. You got to defend. You got to do your job.,” said Eagan.

UNM will be back in action on Friday Nov. 6 when they host New Mexico Highlands with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
