MORGANTON, N.C. (WBTV) - A 36-year-old man was killed on a motorcycle Tuesday afternoon after he rear-ended a pick-up truck during a police chase in Burke County.

At around 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, highway patrol said 36-year-old Rodney Reese was killed on NC Highway 18 in Morganton. North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Reese was traveling at a high rate of speed on a Kawasaki motorcycle while being chased by deputies from Burke County.

State troopers said Reese rear-ended a 2011 Dodge Ram pick-up truck. Officials said the Ram was trying to turn left into the Burke County Waste Disposal site when it was hit from behind.

Reese was ejected from the motorcycle and died from his injuries.

It was not immediately clear why Reese was being chased by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
