Report: Dumonts now controlling owners of Dallas Mavericks
Patrick Dumont and his wife, Sivan Ochshorn, purchased Miriam Adelson’s shares of the Dallas Mavericks, making the Las Vegas couple the controlling owners of the NBA franchise, ESPN reported on Tuesday.
Dumont, the chairman and CEO of gaming and resort giant Las Vegas Sands Corp., has served as governor of the team since the Adelson family purchased the franchise from longtime Mavericks owner Mark Cuban in 2023. Ochshorn is Adelson’s daughter, and Adelson is the majority shareholder of Las Vegas Sands Corp.
In comments to ESPN, Dumont said the decision was a long-term investment to keep the Mavericks in Dallas. The Mavericks are working to build a new arena in North Dallas. The franchise’s lease at American Airlines Center expires in 2031.
“The Dumont family is really committed to building what we hope is the best arena in the NBA, a really significant investment in the city that will help create the new 40-year home for the Dallas Mavericks, a great experience for our fans and inspire our team to win championships,” Dumont told ESPN. “That’s really what we’re focused on.”
The Dumonts now control 69 percent of the team. Cuban, who sold the Mavericks to the Las Vegas families for $3.5 billion, maintains a 27 percent ownership share. Dumont told ESPN that he plans to purchase a 20 percent stake from Cuban at the $3.5 billion valuation.
Dumont’s tenure as Mavericks governor has seen its ups and downs.
The Mavericks reached the NBA Finals in 2024, their first appearance since winning their first championship in 2011. Eight months later, franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Dallas then overcame improbable odds and won the NBA Draft lottery that summer, selecting teenage phenom Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick.
Flagg, 19, and star point guard Kyrie Irving have brought buzz back to Dallas with a 4-3 start this season.
“The most important thing every day is just trying to work harder to get better,” Dumont said. “It’s something that really applies in life, but it’s something that really applies to here. It’s been an experience as a new owner in the league. Dallas is a great sports city. I think we have the best fans in the NBA, very passionate, and it’s my job to make sure that we win and that we support our fans.”
