Back in May, the Republican-controlled Tennessee House and Senate passed a redistricting plan that splits Memphis into three congressional districts. The move drew sharp criticism from Democratic lawmakers who accused Republicans of racial gerrymandering.
The redrawn Memphis-based district stretches north along the Mississippi River to Kentucky and then runs all the way to Williamson and Maury Counties in Middle Tennessee.
Hatcher is a former Tennessee Agriculture commissioner, dairy farmer and veterinarian.
Incumbent District 5 Congressman Andy Ogles lost his Republican candidacy to Hatcher in the August Primary Election.
